Here is the activity to be done in class on Wednesday or Thursday - open this link when directed to in class.

E block:  chapters 5 and 6 due Wednesday 3/30, 7 and 8 for Thursday 3/31.  You're on your own to finish the book before Monday (this should be manageable - you know what the main symbols mean, and should be able to make sense of the conclusion).

research paper final draft due Tuesday 3/29, and Stalin video link

Research papers due Tuesday 3/29 for all classes.  Review the grading rubric and requirements on the assignment sheet.  I will address any questions you have at the start of class every day this week.

If your class does not meet Tuesday (B block) you may choose to turn in the paper on Monday, or drop it off with me sometime during the day on Tuesday.

Also, here is the Stalin video you saw part of in class (we watched up until about 50 minutes).

Please bring a printed, 4-5 page MLA style paper to class with you on Monday.    You will have no other homework this week so you can focus on this.   Refer to the assignment sheet for specific requirements.  We will be spending some class time this week on the writing stage of the research process.

Russia: Land of the Tsars

Here is a link to the video from class.  If you missed it, or feel like you missed anything as you watched it, it's definitely worth your time to watch it.  The clips you saw in class are only about 40 minutes total.  We watched part 14 beginning at about 3 minutes, up through the first minute of part 19.

Assignments this week

Please bring your textbooks to class Wednesday 3/2 (B and E blocks) or Thursday 3/3 (C block).
All Quiet on the Western Front projects are due Monday 3/7.

to be done in class on Tuesday 3/1 (C and E only)

Today is the Massachusetts Presidential Primary Election, as well as (coincidentally!) the Arlington High School Mock Primary Election.  You will be voting at the end of the period for the candidate of your choice.

Visit the following sites to educate yourselves about the candidates, and to see where your views align with theirs.  Spend at least 30 minutes on this research:

http://www.ontheissues.org/default.htm
http://upfront.scholastic.com/issues/01_11_16/primary-matters/ (enter classroom code K38TWR)
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/us/elections/candidates-on-the-issues.html?_r=0
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/us/elections/2016-presidential-candidates.html
Visit the official website of at least one candidate.

VOTE!  (for one candidate only!  This is how real primaries work).  You will receive a piece of paper on which to "vote" (and write a brief rationale of your choice).

You may use the remainder of the time to work on your project for All Quiet on the Western Front.
